NIKKI HASKELL | Untitled Abstract
Date: 1960-70s
Medium: oil on board
Dimensions: 18 x 18 x 2 inches framed (work is 11 x 11)
Provenance: Sold directly from her estate by Red Fox
Condition Report: Poor to Fair Vintage Condition. The painting exhibits substantial structural warping across the vintage support panel, causing the board to bow significantly away from the frame bedding. Widespread, active paint layer loss is present throughout, including deep chips exposing the bare underlying substrate along the upper and right margins, accompanied by heavy micro-cracking (craquelure) consistent with mid-century aging. Stable but highly fragile; handle with care.
Gallery Note: A rare, early career fine art piece by Nikki Haskell, likely dating to her foundational years studying at the Chicago Art Institute or her early years in New York. Stripping away the high-society pop themes of her later 90s works, this mid-century abstract relies entirely on heavy impasto brushwork and a soft, muted color field of cream, pale pink, soft yellow, and mint green. The pronounced vintage wear, combined with its dramatic period framing, provides an exceptional, raw look into the origins of Haskell's artistic development before her emergence as a pop-culture icon.
